TORRE SCIERE

Sciere Tower

The tower of Usciere, known as Sciere, together with the other two towers in the town territory. called  M’pisu and the tower of Isulidda, was one of the watchtowers included in the island circuit planned by the architect Camillo Camilliani from Florence in 1583, when he was given the task of realizing a system of towers to defend from pirates who infested the Mediterranean. Like the other towers by Camiliani, it has a quadrangular layout with, on the base, a strong embankment destined to contain the cistern and deposit for the munitions; A square room divided into two areas for the guardsmen was on the first floor; above was the terrace where the pieces of artillery were kept and where the smoke and fire signals were carried out.
