Elymian Wall

A superb archaeological testimony of the seventh century B.C. The construction of this barrier wall dates back to Elimi-Phoenician-Punic period. Today it winds around the Medieval city for a distance of about 700 metres, but in ancient times it surrounded the city in a strong defensive way, protecting the urban settlement in an impregnable way. Notice that near Porta Carmine there are a few engravings pertaining to the Phoenician alphabet.
